Convex functions on Carnot Groups
2007
We consider the definition and regularity properties of convex functions in Carnot groups. We show that various notions of convexity in the subelliptic setting that have appeared in the literature are equivalent. Our point of view is based on thinking of convex functions as subsolutions of homogeneous elliptic equations.
The Bishop–Phelps–Bollobás theorem for operators
2008
AbstractWe prove the Bishop–Phelps–Bollobás theorem for operators from an arbitrary Banach space X into a Banach space Y whenever the range space has property β of Lindenstrauss. We also characterize those Banach spaces Y for which the Bishop–Phelps–Bollobás theorem holds for operators from ℓ1 into Y. Several examples of classes of such spaces are provided. For instance, the Bishop–Phelps–Bollobás theorem holds when the range space is finite-dimensional, an L1(μ)-space for a σ-finite measure μ, a C(K)-space for a compact Hausdorff space K, or a uniformly convex Banach space.
Improved Bounds for Hermite–Hadamard Inequalities in Higher Dimensions
2019
Let $\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^n$ be a convex domain and let $f:\Omega \rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ be a positive, subharmonic function (i.e. $\Delta f \geq 0$). Then $$ \frac{1}{|\Omega|} \int_{\Omega}{f dx} \leq \frac{c_n}{ |\partial \Omega| } \int_{\partial \Omega}{ f d\sigma},$$ where $c_n \leq 2n^{3/2}$. This inequality was previously only known for convex functions with a much larger constant. We also show that the optimal constant satisfies $c_n \geq n-1$. As a byproduct, we establish a sharp geometric inequality for two convex domains where one contains the other $ \Omega_2 \subset \Omega_1 \subset \mathbb{R}^n$: $$ \frac{|\partial \Omega_1|}{|\Omega_1|} \frac{| \Omega_2|}{|\partial \Ome…
Geometric mean and triangles inscribed in a semicircle in Banach spaces
2008
AbstractWe consider the triangles with vertices x, −x and y where x,y are points on the unit sphere of a normed space. Using the geometric means of the variable lengths of the sides of these triangles, we define two geometric constants for Banach spaces. These constants are closely related to the modulus of convexity of the space under consideration, and they seem to represent a useful tool to estimate the exact values of the James and Jordan–von Neumann constants of some Banach spaces.
Time Versus Energy in the Averaged Optimal Coplanar Kepler Transfer towards Circular Orbits
2015
International audience; The aim of this note is to compare the averaged optimal coplanar transfer towards circular orbits when the costs are the transfer time transfer and the energy consumption. While the energy case leads to analyze a 2D Riemannian metric using the standard tools of Riemannian geometry (curvature computations, geodesic convexity), the time minimal case is associated to a Finsler metric which is not smooth. Nevertheless a qualitative analysis of the geodesic flow is given in this article to describe the optimal transfers. In particular we prove geodesic convexity of the elliptic domain.
Vector Well-posedness of Optimization Problems and Variational Inequalities
2008
In this paper, a new sufficient condition is given in order a vector variational inequality is well-posed. This condition uses generalized convexity assumptions and can be also used in order to prove the well-posedness of a vector optimization problem.
Logarithmic mean inequality for generalized trigonometric and hyperbolic functions
2015
In this paper we study the convexity and concavity properties of generalized trigonometric and hyperbolic functions in case of Logarithmic mean. peerReviewed
